Time Remaining for Submissions
It's time for our fifth Masquerade Event! Can you hide yourselves as well as Harry and Archie? Or will you instead be caught even before you enter the gates of Hogwarts? Now is the time to find out!
Join us on this journey of identity shenanigans, and mischief...Masquerade is a low-commitment event split into two parts:
Part One (Feb 28th – Mar 28th): Authors write a fic and publish it anonymously during the posting period
Part Two (Mar 29th – Apr 10th): Readers try to guess who wrote whatYou do not have to participate in part one (the writing) to participate in part two (the guessing). Come on in and join us in this shenanigan-filled event!
[Part One – Fic Submission]
I. Write the fic
Write a RBC fic that is:
1000-2000 words inclusive, Modern English using latin script/arabic numerals, readable left to right, Complete, Based on RBC/a recursive fic of the same, SFW (non explicit + no smut), and never published anywhere else. Your creation must be your own work; it may not be created by machine-generated text programs (so-called “AI”). All fic must be posted under your own account and have remained as such throughout the writing period and event. I reserve the right to reject any fic at any stage of the event for not following the spirit or the letter of the rules of the event. This is to ensure you write enough to give people a fair shot at guessing your writing style, but also not too much that you give yourself away.YOU MAY SUBMIT YOUR FIC TO AO3 ANYTIME YOU WANT, AS LONG AS IT IS BEFORE MAR 27TH AT 11:59 PM EDTII. Post the fic
After you finish writing, you must make sure to include your fic in the “rbcmasquerade2026″ collection before publishing. This will ensure that your fic is published anonymously. Additionally, it'd be much appreciated if you could include the tag “RBC Masquerade 2026″ and link back to the event to encourage other people to join.To post to the collection, go to the collection here and click on the "Post to Collection" button and then proceed normally from there.

After publishing, immediately fill out this google form to be included in the event roster. This form is also where you will be able to state preferences for people you'd like to be grouped with (i.e., in the case of imitation). An unsubmitted form will result in the removal of your fic from the collection. You may only submit ONE entry. There is no required theme/prompt for you to write, but you are obviously encouraged to write characters/pairings/themes/styles you usually don’t write to throw people off guessing your identity. Any pairing/crossovers/etc will be accepted as long as RBC characters are involved.Your fic must be a self-contained oneshot and able to stand alone, it should be marked as completed. It cannot be the first chapter to a longer work you plan to publish at a later date. It also cannot be affiliated with any other events until the end of the Masquerade event.
[Part Two – Author Guessing]
The following assumes two groups are required, timelines will vary if we have a different number:On March 28th, Rime will post a document of all the listed suspects [authors] and their fic to both discord and this carrd. This will include the author’s AO3 and any other social media profile they may have provided. Assuming similar participation rates to prior years, these "suspects" will be split into 2 or more groups.Group 1: [fics]() [form]()
Group 2: [fics]() [form]()A google form will then be released for people to guess who wrote what within Group 1.
A final tally of guesses for Group 1 will be shown on April 4th with the form for Group 2 being released at that time as well. The guessing of Group 2's authors will conclude on April 10th with the results being released shortly thereafter.Everyone will be given the opportunity to sleuth out both groups, as in you can submit guesses for neither group, only one group, or both groups.
[Part Three – Prizes]
Prizes are the same as last year:Being the least guessed in your group or the most successful guesser of a group will net you a custom role of your choice + an emote to be added to the server (with mod approval). Additionally, the most successful guesser overall will receive a month of Nitro Basic. (if I did not make your role/emote last year please let me know and I'll add it in this year)There will also be a raffle with the winner also earning a month of Nitro Basic. Each of the following will give you 1 raffle entry:

SCHEDULE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Q. What are the requirements for my fic?
A. All submitted fic must adhere to the following requirements:
1000-2000 words, Modern English using solely the Latin script/Arabic numerals, readable left to right, based on RBC/a recursive fic of the same, SFW (non explicit, no smut (nothing more explicit than murkybluematter's fic)), and never published anywhere else. Symbols such as, but not limited to |, can not be used in place of actual letters/numbers used in the English Language. Furthermore, your fic cannot be affiliated with any other events until the end of the Masquerade event. You cannot kudos your own fic. I reserve the right to remove your fic from the event at any time due to the breaking of either the spirit or the letter of the rules.Q. Can my fic have more than one chapter?
A. Yes it can. All chapters must be posted at the same time, though.Q. Can I edit my fic?
A. Only minor spelling and grammar edits are permitted once your fic has been posted. For example, changing the structure of your fic or replacing it with another story entirely are not permitted.Q. Can my fic contain images?
A. No it cannot, neither as an embedded image nor as a divider.Q. How should I speculate in order to maintain proper event conduct?
A. Firstly, in order to participate in this event, you must be in good standing with the harry get some sleep discord server. Rime also reserves the right to reject fic for being in poor taste. This has not happened yet, do not be the one who does this. Also, in general and especially when speculating, make sure to be kind about your comments. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Examples of good speculation:
"I think X wrote [fic A] because X has spoken about [topic] before" / "I think Y wrote [fic B] because they never use em-dashes"
Examples of bad speculation:
"The grammar for this fic is bad, I think a non-native speaker wrote it" / "Is this a joke entry?"Bad speculation CAN be rephrased to more polite good speculation. Instead of calling the grammar bad, you could just say: "Some of the grammar constructions the author used are uncommon in English."Please just be mindful of any negativity, we want this to be a fun event!Q. How can I find a beta reader but still maintain my anonymity?
A. DM Rime (Rime#5410). She'll ask you questions about characters/pairings, any potential spoilers, what type of beta you'd like (so Spelling/Grammar, Flow, Characterization, etc or some combo thereof) and will request a copy of your fic. She'll make a beta request in the server using the information shared about your fic and make a copy of your fic to share with the eventual beta.In the instance that you do not maintain anonymity with your beta; firstly, make sure to let me know. I'll make a note of it, and when guessing happens and if your beta chooses to guess on your fic, their guess will automatically be counted as incorrect.Q. Who is at fault for the color/font choices on this Carrd?
A. Rime. She's the one you'd want to lambast.
